2007 Inductions

 

 

Bob Robertson, a member of the broadcaster¹s wing of the College Hall of
Fame and the longtime voice of Washington State University football, was
inducted into the State Sports HOF during ceremonies of the Cougar's
homecoming game in October 2007.

 

 

 

 

Vince Hanson, Laurie Niemi, and Bob Robertson were inducted into the State
of Washington Sports Hall of Fame during ceremonies at the Arizona
State-Washington State homecoming football game on October 13, 2007 in
Pullman. Former WSU and NFL great, Keith Lincoln, himself a member of the
state HOF, was on hand to congratulate the trio.

Maxine Niemi, wife of All-America football standout, Laurie Niemi, flew in from

California to accept the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame plaque on behalf

of her husband from Cougar and NFL standout Keith Lincoln.

Steve Niemi, son of Cougar football standout, Laurie Niemi, accepts congratulations

from Keith Lincoln, as Maxine Niemi looks on. Steve flew out from Massachusetts

to witness his father’s induction into the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame.

During his career, Laurie enjoyed five seasons with the Washington Redskins of
the NFL, including two Pro Bowls.

Frosty Westering was inducted on September 29, 2007 during halftime of the

University of Puget Sound-Pacific Lutheran University football game at Sparks

Stadium in Puyallup before a crowd of 3000.

2006 Induction of UW Greats

Trish Bostrom and John Cherberg were inducted into the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame on February 8, 2007 during halftime intermission of the California Bears - University of Washington Huskies PAC-10 basketball game. A sellout crowd of over 10,000 fans witnessed a UW victory, a fitting conclusion for these two Husky stars.

Clay Huntington, Executive Director of the State of Washington Sports Hall of

State's Diamond Treasure

Major League pitching coaches Bryan Price of the Seattle Mariners and Bud Black

of the Anaheim Angels congratulate Hub Kittle on the venerable 86-year old's

induction in the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame.

 

Sandberg State's Standout

Truly one of the State's outstanding baseball greats, Ryne Sandberg was a

Chicago Cubs star for 16 seasons. The Spokane native receives his honors from

Clay Huntington, Founder and Executive Director of the State of Washington

Sports Hall of Fame at Safeco Field in Seattle before 45,000 fans.

 

2001 Induction of Media Members

at Safeco Field

Over 45,000 fans viewed the induction of four media members to the State of

Washington Sports Hall of Fame at Safeco Field in Seattle prior to a Mariners game.

 

Pictured above, left to right, Bob Blackburn recognized as a pro's pro in the sports

broadcasting field. He was the original voice of the Seattle Supersonics. His nearly

60 year career included announcing over 7,000 sports events and 2,359 NBA games.

Les Keiter regarded as a broadcast cult figure for his over 50 years in the profession.

His exciting radio career took him from his native Seattle to New York and Philadelphia.

He covered boxing on ABC radio and TV and was the first play-by-play announcer for

the old American Football League. Clay Huntington, Hall of Fame founder and

long-time radio and TV sportscaster who made the induction presentations. Georg

Meyers one of the most revered sports editors and columnists in the State of

Washington. He spent over 35 years with the Seattle Times covering all sports

including nine Olympic Games. Harry Missildine a legendary Inland Empire sports

editor and columnist. He spend nearly 30 years with the Spokesman-Review in

Spokane before retiring in 1982.
